Well what an amazing start; in a message at 01:31 UK time Brian said he gone off a bit too hard but had recovered from that and was aiming for 200 miles before he looked for somewhere to sleep.
At 07:40 UK time time Brian had covered 241 miles in a race time of 14:50 and had pulled over to rest at a camp ground where 2 or 3 other riders are about half a mile up a side road.

The route so far has tracked down the coast , skirted past Eugene, Oregon (this is where Nike has its origins) and was heading in land following the Camp Creek valley road avoiding the mountains but in this part of America, there aren’t that many route options to choose from.
Just to make it interesting ) as if doing this ride isn’t painful enough), Brian managed to get a wasp inside his shirt and got stung 5 times before he could evict it….
Other minor mishaps have included a bag slipping and rubbing on a wheel, this has made a small hold in the bag and a small adjustment having to be made to the brake frame bolt which was moving….
All in all a great first day!
