About Silverfit
Founded in 2013, by now 76-year old Eddie Brocklesby, UK’s oldest female Ironman triathlete, Silverfit is a charity with two fundamental aims: to combat loneliness, and get those over 45 more physically active.
By promoting happier, healthier ageing through affordable physical activity and at the same time combat social isolation, Silverfit’s aim is to not only improve older people’s quality of life but also to save the NHS and social care providers money in doing so.
Silverfit has grown to over 1,000 members at 17 venues across 8 London boroughs, reaching a large number of people who weren’t previously active.
Each venue offers a choice of activities from Nordic Walking, to pilates, yoga, walking football, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Latin American Dance, badminton, Bollywood dance and Silver Cheerleading, which means that everyone should be able to find an activity to enjoy.
“Joining Silverfit has changed my life for the better, I have made some new friends and gained confidence to try different exercises. I’ve got my freedom back.” Silverfit member and one of Silverfit’s Directors, Marjorie Barnes.
Silverfit relies heavily on funding and fundraising, with money raised for Silverfit contributing towards the daily running of activities, paying instructors and venues, hiring/buying of kit needed, marketing to target new members and above all else, the enjoyment of over 1000 older people across London!
