As you might gather I’m not really one for writing Blog’s, which is strange really as I love telling people about the things we do, we being my athletes, my friends and myself. Lots of people would say mainly myself. The last Brian’s Blog was in January 2015, however hopefully over the next couple of weeks I will write a few and after that in June, there will be daily ones written by JSNT top reporter Russell Carter. More on that later.
I arrived back from Mallorca a week ago after our annual camps, they where amazing for me as ever and hopefully very enjoyable for the athletes. This year we had English, Danes, Swiss, Argentine & South Africans and I’m not sure how many km’s we swam, cycled and ran, but it was a lot. During the month of April the sun shone 29 days out of 30, which is a record, even for Mallorca.
The awards for the most extreme feats on the camps go to Simon Billson, with his lighthouse run and Paul Allsop doing the 225km in a relaxed manner and coming back with a total of 235km and 5,000m worth of climbing. Although everyone pushed the envelope and did more than they believed they could.
Since I’ve been back our coaches and I’m proud to say, my athletes, have started racing and showing what the camps have helped them to achieve, Russell Carter hitting new pb’s in both 10 & 25 mile TT’s and Gill Campbell breaking her 10 mile TT PB. Donna James won her age group in the Driffield Triathlon, whilst beating herself up for her mistakes. Jackie Sargant completed and competed in Spain.
Over the summer we have a whole range of athletes attempting races from their first sprint triathlon, to extreme IM’s, 5km’s to 100 mile ultra runs, 24 hour road TT’s.
My summer starts with Tour De Lac Leman (180km around Lake Geneva) on Sunday 21st May, followed up closely by the Trans Am (6800km) from Astoria, Oregon to Yorktown, Virginia starting on June 3rd. This is why our intrepid reporter Russell Carter will be providing you with daily updates via this blog which also goes straight to FB.
Preparation so far has gone well, since Christmas and putting my entry in I’ve managed a grand total of 8783km with nearly 73,000m of climbing included, which sounds large until you look at the Trans Am website and see that in the 30 days allowed I need to do 6800km with 54,000m of climbing, mainly in the first half.http://https://transambikerace.com/resources/
I have two long rides planned for this week and will report back on them, hopefully
B
